Description:
Initial project specified RCC in 2005 based on comparison of four Pavement systems including PCC, Asphalt, Pavers, and RCC. The asphalt section was subsequently eliminated from consideration due to prior rutting experience under similar loading conditions. The RCC section was selected based on the anticipated life cycle cost of remaining alternatives.
To date, over 356,000 SY of 16.5” RCC Pavement with a 7 day compressive strength of 2500 psi has been placed utilizing dual lift construction with a tandem pavers at 30’ paving widths. Over 450 full depth cores were taken during the project and AG Peltz averaged over 90% bonding efficiency. An additional project is under contract for 2008.
